Notes: Chapter 11

Do you realise I actually had to stop and make floor plans for this building in order to make things work out right? I couldn’t figure how to include the stairways, and the scale is off, but the rest is all there. For the first floor, at least.  The top of the stairs Fielding goes up from the reception hall in the basement would be at the upper right, between the back outside door and the door leading into the long, narrow storage room.

To be a successful investigator able to sneak into any building without getting caught you need flexibility, a thorough knowledge of your target, and a quick mind that stays calm under pressure — all traits Fielding lacks.

You know who had them in spades, though?

  1. Oh I had such a crush on her. Still do. Do you know, quite apart from the Avengers, she starred in a James Bond movie? She married George Lazenby’s Bond in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service. And then she died. I cried.

    • Me too. Such a crush. And the George Lazenby movie is one of my favourites. I already knew she was going to die because I’d read the book, but it still came as a hard. And I know I’m in a minority on this, but until Daniel Craig, Lazenby was my favourite post-Connery Bond. There was something real about him, and the movie stressed his ingenuity over his use of gadgets.

    • I kept having him running in directions that didn’t work out. I needed the floor plan. Sure didn’t want to spend the time on it, and I suspect it’s a pretty lousy layout, but it’s good enough for now.
